Our History
The roots of SBK Girls’ Higher Secondary School trace back to the visionary efforts of the Saiva Bhanu Kshatriya Kula Nadar community in Aruppukottai. With a steadfast belief in the power of education, the community established the Kshatriya Vidhyasala Higher Elementary School, which laid the foundation for a legacy of learning.
In 1889, the school was upgraded to a Middle School, marking the beginning of its academic expansion. Recognizing the growing demand for secondary education, the institution was elevated in 1930 to offer S.S.L.C. (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) classes, thus becoming a full-fledged High School. Five years later, in 1935, the school celebrated its Golden Jubilee and was renamed Nadar Higher Secondary School, a name that resonated with pride and progress.
Understanding the transformative role of education in women’s lives, the school began admitting female students for higher education by 1950. Over the next decade, the strength of girl students steadily increased, eventually constituting nearly half of the total student population.
In response to this significant shift, and driven by a vision to provide dedicated education for girls, the Aruppukottai Nadar community established the Saiva Bhanu Kshatriya Girls’ High School in 1964, with the unwavering support of its members and well-wishers.
This institution achieved another milestone in 1978, when it was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School, expanding its academic offerings from Grades 6 to 12. The school has since remained committed to excellence in education, fostering both academic achievements and character development among its students.
To formalize its governance, the School Management Committee was registered in 1997 under the Societies Registration Act (S. No: 71 of 1997). The school is recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu and receives financial assistance for its development.
In 2014, the school celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of dedicated service to girls’ education with a grand celebration that honored its rich legacy and future aspirations.
Today, SBK Girl’s Higher Secondary School stands as a beacon of empowerment and education, proudly nurturing over 2,500 students who are actively pursuing their academic and personal growth under the guidance of a committed faculty and visionary leadership.
We believe that education is the foundation for a brighter future. Established with the vision to provide holistic education to girls, our school stands as a beacon of learning, discipline, and empowerment in the region.
